New Prism Sound's 2017 Mic to Monitor tour

Welcome to Prism Sound's 2017 Mic to Monitor tour!

Prism Sound teams up with universities, colleges, industry experts and VIP artists, producers and engineers around the world to offer fantastic FREE, fast paced and enjoyable learning and networking opportunities for those interested in music, sound recording and production.

This year we are continuing the well-received tour in the US and Europe!

Prism Sound's "Mic to Monitor" seminars aim to sweep aside the myths, the jargon and the plain nonsense that is too often peddled as fact in the wonderful recording industry. We tell it like it is, to help you get the best out of the tools you use regardless of the brand.

Prism Sound brings in key partners to deliver technical seminars on a wide range of subjects under the broad heading of music and sound recording and production. Topics include but are not limited to: room acoustics; microphone technology and techniques; loudspeaker technology; interface and converter technology; hearing safety and in-ear monitoring as well as dipping into psycho-acoustics and perception. Guest topics include recording techniques, mixing, remixing and mastering and much more. We can't cover all the topics in one session so presentations do vary from venue to venue, but you can check the programme for individual events. Also appearing are some very special VIP guest presenters currently working as artistes, producers or engineers within the audio and music industry to share their unique experience and expertise. We hope that you will be able to join us at one (or more!) of the events and learn more about recording technology, the latest techniques and to join us in busting some of the popular myths that have evolved in the industry.

We will be visiting various locations in both the US and Europe with dates and venues to be announced shortly!

We look forward to meeting you. Look out for venue announcements as tickets will be available on a first come first served basis.

See you soon at a Mic to Monitor event near you!

New Accessibility in Film, Television, and Interactive Media [UK]

The number of visually impaired people in the UK is expected to rise to 4 million by 2020, while by 2050 it is estimated that there will be 15.6 million of people with hearing loss in the UK. Such statistics reflect the urgency in which film, television and interactive media industries need to reflect on the diversity of their audiences as well as measures to increase both accessibility as well as foster inclusivity.

This event seeks to promote communication between researchers, stakeholders in the creative industries, accessibility services, and audiences. It will provide an interdisciplinary forum, integrating approaches from the arts, humanities, engineering and social sciences that study both traditional and innovative approaches to accessibility. We particularly welcome submissions in the field of sound design, audio engineering and music technology. The panels on these themes will be organised under the umbrella of the Audio Engineering Society (AES) North of England section.

In addition attendees will learn the theory and its practicality in achieving superior sound in the real world, and is focused on optimising the designed sound system by using the on-board tools in the amplifiers.

This workshop has been designed for SoundGirls and includes:

Basic Electro Acoustics - A review of the principles of acoustics. Important questions are answered such as; how does sound propagate and how do sound waves combine?

The d&b workflow: ArrayCalc prediction and R1 remote control software. Become familiar and comfortable with the design, deployment and operation of a d&b sound system using the d&b Workflow. Learn the basics of acoustics, loudspeaker characteristics and design. Learn the configuration of a d&b sound system using the ArrayCalc system simulation software as well as the R1 Remote control software for configuring d&b amplifiers and controlling d&b sound systems. NoizCalc – Far field noise immission software. The d&b NoizCalc software uses international standards to model the far field noise immission from one or more d&b loudspeaker systems. NoizCalc takes data from the ArrayCalc simulation software and calculates snapshots showing the sound propagation and relative attenuation values towards the far field for a certain scenario with particular meteorological conditions. With these tools, the optimal sonic experience is delivered reliably and faithfully to the right ears, and not the wrong ones.

GameSoundCon, the premier conference for video game music and sound design, is scheduled this year for November 7 and 8 in the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles, CA. Those who register before the end of September will be able to save $250 off the ticket price.

This year's keynote speaker will be Becky Allen, head of Audio at PopCap/EA and the first female game sound professional to deliver the keynote at GameSoundCon.

Brian Schmidt, GameSoundCon's Executive Director, is happy to have secured Ms. Allen for the keynote position: "Becky has helped push the industry forward her entire two and a half decade career; not just through her work as Audio Director and composer at EA/PopCap, or her work at Microsoft or SounDelux, but as one of the leaders of our industry." He continues with a smile: "I'm honored that she's willing to deliver the keynote speech at GameSoundCon this year and sharing her insights and experience with us."

Because of its continued growth and pervasiveness throughout the gaming industry, this year's conference will feature a special Virtual Reality (VR) track, almost a conference within a conference, focusing on the latest developments regarding audio and music for the virtual reality projects. Other sessions and speakers will be announced over the next couple of weeks at GameSoundCon.com.

GameSoundCon is a resource for sound designers and composers from Film, TV, music or other traditional media who are looking to widen their skills when it comes to composing music for games, and for experienced game audio professionals who want to learn more about Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, and stay on the cutting edge.

The conference is held on November 7-8 in the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles, CA.

GameSoundCon's EARLY BIRD pricing of $445 is available through September 30, 2017, after which the price is $695.
