New Prism Sound's 2017 Mic to Monitor tour

Welcome to Prism Sound's 2017 Mic to Monitor tour!

Prism Sound teams up with universities, colleges, industry experts and VIP artists, producers and engineers around the world to offer fantastic FREE, fast paced and enjoyable learning and networking opportunities for those interested in music, sound recording and production.

This year we are continuing the well-received tour in the US and Europe!

Prism Sound's "Mic to Monitor" seminars aim to sweep aside the myths, the jargon and the plain nonsense that is too often peddled as fact in the wonderful recording industry. We tell it like it is, to help you get the best out of the tools you use regardless of the brand.

Prism Sound brings in key partners to deliver technical seminars on a wide range of subjects under the broad heading of music and sound recording and production. Topics include but are not limited to: room acoustics; microphone technology and techniques; loudspeaker technology; interface and converter technology; hearing safety and in-ear monitoring as well as dipping into psycho-acoustics and perception. Guest topics include recording techniques, mixing, remixing and mastering and much more. We can't cover all the topics in one session so presentations do vary from venue to venue, but you can check the programme for individual events. Also appearing are some very special VIP guest presenters currently working as artistes, producers or engineers within the audio and music industry to share their unique experience and expertise. We hope that you will be able to join us at one (or more!) of the events and learn more about recording technology, the latest techniques and to join us in busting some of the popular myths that have evolved in the industry.

We will be visiting various locations in both the US and Europe with dates and venues to be announced shortly!

We look forward to meeting you. Look out for venue announcements as tickets will be available on a first come first served basis.

See you soon at a Mic to Monitor event near you!

New Synthposium Festival 2017 [Russia]

Synthposium Festival 2017

The annual festival of a new culture, formed at the junction of electronic music and technology

For the last three years, Synthposium has united and inspired professional producers and musicians, fans of analogue and modular synthesisers, engineers and experts on musical instruments. Today the festival’s reach goes beyond a narrowly specialised community to become a major urban event set to provide a unique interactive platform for demonstrating new thought in engineering, digital design, and the results of creative inquiry across different areas. The aftermath of previous editions of the project has seen growing audience interest and the potential for the local market to become, in the near future, one of the most creative and fast-paced in the world.

This year the extended four-day format for Synthposium will include an exhibition of achievements in music technology and an educational programme dedicated to lectures, public talks and workshops led by international and local experts and engineers including BBC broadcaster Matthew Sweet and synth enthusiast Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe aka Lichens. Following the tradition of Russian engineering innovations in music, Synthposium will hold an offline premiere of Deckard's Dream, designed by Russian engineer Roman Filippov (Sputnik Modular). The 8-voice polyphonic analogue synthesiser is inspired by a certain sound in late 1970s and early 1980s cinema, most recognisable in Vangelis’s score for Blade Runner.

A parallel awards ceremony will take place for the first time at Synthposium, awarding prizes to the best engineering, the best interface designs and concepts, and artists with the most technologically advanced live shows – all for the first time in Russia. The festival will also host interactive installations and audiovisual performances. An evening programme will include three afterparties at popular clubbing venues in Moscow, with international artists and famous local musicians among the headliners – get ready for shoegaze disciple Ulrich Schnauss and German techno legend Thomas P. Heckmann.

Artists and speakers: Peter Kirn (GE), Richard Devine (US), Jacek Sienkiewicz (PL), Solar X (UK, RU), Richard Fearless (UK), Morphology (FIN), Mustelide (BL), Ulrich Schnauss (GE), Thomas P. Heckmann (GE), Todd Sines (US), RU: PTU, Interchain, Nikita Zabelin, Fedor Vetkalov, OID, Amnfx, HMOT, DZA, GOST ZVUK, Vtgnike, BMB SpaceKid, Kurvenschreiber and many others.

Expo participants: Yamaha, Roland, Polivoks, MDR.modular, Playtronica, Erica Synths, Sputnik Modular, VG-Line, L-1 Synth, DNGR:TECH, Svarog Audio, Uoki-Toki, TipTop Audio, SSSR Labs and many more.

The Synthposium team will showcase a collaboration of Russian music industry activists initiated by the Main In Main communications agency.

Where: Moscow
When: 24–27 August

8th September 2017 to 10th September 2017 08:00 AM to 08:00 PM
New AES 2017 International Conference on Automotive Audio [USA]

Over the last 20 years, automotive audio has changed dramatically from being standard mono sound in one full-range loudspeaker to a true multichannel playback system fully integrated and adjusted to the specific car. Today some of the most advanced sound technologies are being developed and applied in automotive audio. Recently the role of audio in the automotive industry has significantly changed. Sound systems are used to design the sound of cars, i.e. the sound of the car itself due to its motion and thus generation of sound (usually called noise). The conference will give an overview of the present state-of-the-art in some specific topics, and addresses many of the new scientific disciplines involved in this still-emerging field. Automotive Audio involves combinations of otherwise complementary scientific fields such as power electronics, bus systems, loudspeaker drive units, signal processing (DSP), acoustics & vibrations (NVH) and more.

New Accessibility in Film, Television, and Interactive Media [UK]

The number of visually impaired people in the UK is expected to rise to 4 million by 2020, while by 2050 it is estimated that there will be 15.6 million of people with hearing loss in the UK. Such statistics reflect the urgency in which film, television and interactive media industries need to reflect on the diversity of their audiences as well as measures to increase both accessibility as well as foster inclusivity.

This event seeks to promote communication between researchers, stakeholders in the creative industries, accessibility services, and audiences. It will provide an interdisciplinary forum, integrating approaches from the arts, humanities, engineering and social sciences that study both traditional and innovative approaches to accessibility. We particularly welcome submissions in the field of sound design, audio engineering and music technology. The panels on these themes will be organised under the umbrella of the Audio Engineering Society (AES) North of England section.
